Tell us a little bit about yourself (family, job, sports, interests, etc.).
Grew up in Garfield, NJ where my parents still reside. 1 of 4 children. Currently reside in East Rutherford around the block from Steam. I’m in my 6th year as a patrolman at the Garfield Police Department. Grew up playing football and baseball and continued throughout HS graduation. I now participate in men’s softball, golf, jogging and interval training. The New York Yankees are my obsession from March-October. I also enjoy weekend adult beverages and dirty filthy beats haha. Classic Rock and Country music fills out my top three and I eat meat all day, everyday.
What was your fitness routine before CrossFit?
Occasional bike riding, jogging and “working out” at Powerhouse Gym in South Hackensack
Why did you start doing CrossFit?
After my second knee surgery, I ballooned up to over 250 lbs and knew I needed something extreme. I was sick and tired of losing and gaining the same 10-15 lbs and being caught in a cycle of plateau’ing in my workouts as well as a poor diet
What were your thoughts after your first CrossFitworkout?
“Sign Me Up” were my exact words to Pat after my first night there.
What were your goals when joining CrossFit Steam and have you achieved them?
My goals were a bit vain in the beginning. I just wanted to get back to my high school weight near 190 lbs and look good for others(specifically the female gender) to see. Since I’ve joined in November, I stopped caring what anyone thought of me and started living the “me vs myself” motto and don’t plan on wavering from it. I’d like to still cut another 15-20 lbs and have a visibly stronger core.
Has CrossFit affected your life outside the box? How so?
Absolutely. The weight loss has made any physical activity less grueling. A naturally uncomfortable work uniform has been easier to deal with and the will power has grown against any negative things in my life.
How would you describe your experience at CrossFitSteam?
Life changing to be brief. Everyone I’ve met there has been nothing but nice.
How has CrossFit differed from any other training you’ve done in the past?
Everyday is different. You don’t fall into the repetitious plateau’ing effect that nearly everyone does in other kinds of training. CrossFit is most comparable to the police academy PT but harder
What advice would you give to a newbie just joiningCrossFit Steam?
Stick to it, be honest with your workouts, don’t cut corners because your only hurting yourself and if you push yourself to your limit than there’s no way you won’t improve and see results. Eat extremely healthy because you can’t out train a bad diet.
Something you might not know about me is?
I wear a size 13 shoe that my body apparently never grew into, my memory is impeccable, and I can juggle.
